As the Trump administration continues to implement across the board tariffs and tease even more tariffs, Tariffs Cost US announced the results from a new survey conducted by nonpartisan Morning Consult.

Louisiana voters are deeply concerned about the rising cost of living and the economic consequences of tariffs. The data show that most voters anticipate higher prices and disruptions to industries that are central to the state’s economy.

Key findings include:

  • 75% expect tariffs will increase the cost of goods they purchase, including 70% of Republicans and 84% of Independents, and 38% say they would be less inclined to buy a product subject to new tariffs.
  • Three-in-four Louisiana voters (72%) – including 79% of Independents and 63% of Republicans – find it very concerning or somewhat concerning that tariffs will increase costs for middle-class families. And, 66% of Louisiana voters – including 63% of Independents and 57% of Republicans – find it somewhat or very concerning that tariffs will hurt American small businesses.
  • 61% of Louisiana voters say tariffs and/or a resulting trade war will harm logistics, trade, and port communities across Southern Louisiana, including a majority of Louisiana Republicans.
  • Only 17% of Louisiana voters – including only 26% of Republicans – believe that foreign countries would be harmed the most.
  • Only 21% of voters support using tariffs as a long-term economic strategy, while 60% say policymakers should focus on fighting inflation rather than imposing tariffs.

The survey was fielded March 22-27, 2025. The survey has a margin of error of 6 percentage points.  To read the full finds of the survey visit: tariffscostus.com/tariff-survey-louisiana/.
