PORTLAND (WGME) — Several Maine business leaders and owners met in Portland Monday to discuss how President Donald Trump’s tariffs are impacting business.
The owner of a Portland brewery says he’s already feeling the effects of the President’s tariffs on aluminum and steel.
Most of the aluminum used in Maine comes from Canada, including the metal used for beer cans.
The owner says people have asked him if switching to bottles is an option.
He says most breweries don’t have that luxury.
“That can take weeks, months and years to do that, additional anywhere from $25,000 to $100,000 for new equipment, we do not have that option as well,” Orange Bike CEO Tom Ruff said.
Trump has stood by his decision on tariffs despite warnings from economists and concerns from members of his own party.
