Tariffs Raise Prices on Thanksgiving Dinner Staples

As Americans prepare their Thanksgiving grocery lists, many will be paying more for key holiday ingredients due to the Trump Administration’s across-the-board tariffs. The latest pricing data, as reported by the American Farm Bureau, LAist, and ConsumerAffairs.com, shows price increases across traditional Thanksgiving meal staples.

Families will pay higher prices on classic Thanksgiving ingredients, including whipping cream, pumpkin pie mix, sweet potatoes, and even the traditional turkey. Grocery shoppers are also paying more for sides like biscuits, stuffing, gravy, and cranberry sauce.

The reality at the grocery store tells a clear story: tariffs are increasing prices for American families.

Here’s the breakdown (price increases from Thanksgiving 2024 to 2025):

  • Jellied cranberry sauce: $3.41 – up 45.7%
  • Half pint of whipping cream: $1.87 – up 3.2%
  • One pound of frozen peas: $2.03 – up 17.2%
  • Thirty ounce can of pumpkin pie mix: $4.16 – up 0.1%
  • One gallon of whole milk: $3.73 – up 16.3%
  • Three pounds of sweet potatoes: $4.00 – up 37%
  • One pound veggie tray of carrots and celery: $1.36 – up 61.3%
  • Wholesale turkey – up 40%
  • Buttermilk biscuits: up 11.35%
  • Gravy: up 14.17%
  • Stuffing: up 14.24%

At a time when families count on an affordable holiday meal, tariffs are making it harder to keep prices down, turning what should be a simple Thanksgiving dinner into a quiet reminder of harmful policy decisions made far from the dinner table.
