ICYMI: Tariffs Raise Prices on Fourth of July Cookout Staples

As Americans fire up the grill this Independence Day, many will be paying more for key cookout ingredients due to the Trump Administration’s across-the-board tariffs. The latest report from the 2025 Farm Bureau Federation Annual Marketbase Survey shows a price increase in canned goods like pork and beans, thanks to steel and aluminum tariffs. Americans are also being forced to pay higher prices for other BBQ favorites, including beef, potato salad, and lemonade.

The reality at the grocery store tells a clear story: tariffs are increasing prices for Americans at the checkout line.

Here’s the breakdown (price increases from Fourth of July 2024 to 2025):

Ground beef (2 lbs): $13.33 — up 4.4% from last year
Potato salad (2.5 lbs): $3.54 — up 6.6%
Pork and beans (32 oz): $2.69 — up 8.2%
Chocolate chip cookies (13 oz): $4.00 — up 0.3%
Ice cream (½ gallon): $5.69 — up 0.7%
Strawberries (2 pints): $4.69 — up 1.7%
Lemonade (2.5 quarts): $4.37 — up 4.2%

Hidden behind packaging and holiday tradition, tariffs are adding up, item by item, dollar by dollar, turning what should be a simple holiday cookout into a quiet reminder of harmful policy decisions made far from the dinner table.
